Student Advisory Committee

We’re looking for students to join the Student Advisory Committee. Could that be you? We hope it is!

What is the Student Advisory Committee?

The purpose of this group is to give you, the students, a seat at the table in college admissions. We want to learn from you and get your ideas and feedback on Common App’s work!
You will help us answer questions such as:
  • How can Common App assist students with affordability resources like scholarships, student aid, and others?
  • What can Common App do to support students with the college planning process (e.g., the personal essay, creating a college list, accessibility)?
  • How can Reach Higher and Better Make Room reach students who are not familiar with our work?
This group will meet regularly with Common App staff to collaborate and help shape the future of college admissions.

I am very thankful for this program and love being an active voice that directly contributes to the improvement of the Common App site and mission.

What are the responsibilities and requirements?

We will assemble a group of 20 students to join the committee for a term of either 12 or 24 months, depending on your school year. Details about the term length will be clarified during the interview process. The first Student Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for July 2026.
During your term, there will be a monthly meeting with Common App staff. We will meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 5 pm to 7 pm EST. If you wish to apply, you must be available during this time. All meetings and participation for this committee will be remote/virtual.
Additionally, there may be some minor activities outside of the main meeting. We estimate that the meeting and these activities will take up to 3.5 hours per month.
Student will receive a monthly stipend of $70 for their participation!

SAC has met my expectations, it is nice to feel heard, and to feel that my opinions and feedback are truly being taken into consideration.

It is much more welcoming and somewhat more informal than I originally thought. Since Common App is such a big name, I honestly thought it would have been very formal meetings, but I love how much feedback we're allowed to give.
