Deadline update, 2024–2025: First-year application trends through March 1

By March 1, 2025, 1,390,256 first-year applicants submitted 8,535,903 applications to 863 returning Common App member institutions. This reflects a 4% increase in applicants and a 6% rise in application volume compared to the previous year.

Some background on the students who applied:

• Growth was fastest among underrepresented minority (URM) applicants, with Latinx applicants increasing by 13% and Black or African American applicants by 10%.
• First-generation applicants grew by 13%, while continuing-generation applicants remained stable.
• Applicants from below median income ZIP codes increased by 8%, outpacing those from higher-income areas.
• International applicants decreased slightly by 1%, while domestic applicants grew by 5%.
