Get admitted to college before you apply

“Having a variety of options of schools to choose from makes you feel motivated and excited to apply to colleges.”
Imagine opening Common App and discovering that a college has already said yes.

If you receive an offer, all you need to do is submit your application to the college so they can verify your information and finalize your admission. Your offer is not binding, so you'll still have the freedom to explore your options and decide which college is the best fit for you.

Many participating colleges also offer benefits like waived application fees or reduced application requirements, making it even easier to take the next step.

What is Common App Direct Admissions?

Direct admissions is a different way to discover colleges.

You may get admission offers from colleges before you even apply, based on information you've shared in your Common App.  It's their way of saying: "We think you'd be a great fit here."

In some states, direct admissions offers are available through statewide partnerships, like Connecticut's Automatic Admission Program and Illinois' One Click College Admit program. These initiatives connect eligible students with participating colleges through Common App.

“Because at first I was having doubt[s] that nobody would accept me or want me at their school until I saw all my direct admissions and I felt so proud of myself and understood that my hard work did pay off.”

How it works

1. Complete basic information in Common App

First, you’ll answer questions about your education, family, GPA, citizenship, Common App fee waiver eligibility, and your parents' education. Participating colleges use this information to determine whether you meet their admissions criteria.

2. Receive direct admissions offers

Once you complete these questions, you could receive offers from participating colleges in as little as one week if you qualify. You'll find your offers in the direct admissions section of your Common App account, and you will also receive an email notification. Each offer is based on the individual college's admissions criteria.

3. Explore your options

Review each college to learn more about their academic programs, campus life, location, scholarships, financial aid opportunities, and application requirements. Take your time deciding which colleges are the best fit for your goals. Your offers may include guaranteed financial aid!

4. Complete and submit your application

When you're ready to accept an offer, submit your Common App to the college. Applying to colleges where you’ve received direct admission is free. Requirements vary by institution, so be sure to review the details of each offer. After you submit your application, colleges verify your information and will respond with an official notice confirming your admission.

5. Choose what's right for you

Receiving a direct admissions offer is not binding, meaning you are not required to enroll. You can still apply to other colleges, compare your options, and decide which school is the best fit for you before making your final enrollment decision.
