About Salzburg College – Degree Programs

Salzburg College is a private institution of higher education located in the heart of Salzburg, Austria. With a mission to provide international education grounded in the American liberal arts tradition, Salzburg College offers a distinctive academic experience that combines rigorous coursework, cultural immersion, and personal growth.

Our degree programs are delivered in partnership with Northern Illinois University (NIU), our U.S. school of record. Students enrolled in the University Transfer Program (equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree) or the Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.) program receive fully accredited U.S. college credit issued through NIU. These programs are interdisciplinary, flexible, and rooted in real-world, experiential learning.

Salzburg College is based on a boutique-style campus, offering a highly personal academic environment with an exceptionally low student-to-faculty ratio. This allows for individualized attention, close mentorship, and a strong sense of community. Our faculty are not only dedicated educators, but also practicing professionals who bring relevant, real-world expertise into the classroom.

At Salzburg College, students do not just earn a degree—they cultivate the global mindset, confidence, and critical thinking needed to succeed in an international world.

U.S. & International Student Financial Aid Options for Degree-Seeking Students at Salzburg College

Financial planning is an important step in preparing for college. Students—especially those from outside the U.S.—should explore funding options early.

1. FAFSA & Aid Through Northern Illinois University (NIU)
Eligible U.S. students can access federal grants and loans by applying through NIU.

  • Submit the FAFSA as part of your NIU application.

  • NIU’s Study Abroad Office will prepare a financial aid budget based on your FAFSA eligibility.
Note: Only federal aid applies to studies with NIU at Salzburg College.

2. VA Education Benefits Through Salzburg College
U.S. veterans and military families apply directly through Salzburg College (not NIU).

  • List “Salzburg College” as your school.

  • Select Bachelor of General Studies as your program (applies to both the University Transfer Program and B.G.S.).

3. International Student Funding Options
While international students typically do not qualify for U.S. federal aid, options include:

  • Home Country Scholarships or Loans: Contact your education ministry or scholarship boards.

  • EducationUSA: U.S. Department of State network offering advising and funding guidance.

  • Private Loans: Available in some home countries to supplement other funding.

Important: Start early, research thoroughly, and track all deadlines to secure the funding you need.
