Application information
First-year
Applicants are normally in their final year of high school, or the equivalent. Applicants who attend (or attended) college or university but who did not complete a minimum of two semesters of full time study are considered for first year. There are three ways to apply; Direct Application, UCAS, or the Common Application. The application route used does not affect the decision on an application. A completed application consists of the application form, a full high school transcript, a Supplemental Essay (called the Personal Statement on UCAS) and an academic reference. Applicants apply to a specific degree programme and Faculty. Some applicants may be offered a place on a waitlist for our most popular degrees. We are rolling admissions and do not have an option to apply EA or ED. Our average decision time is around 9 weeks.
Transfer
Transfer applicants should have completed two or more semesters of full-time study at a recognised institution. Transfer applicants must submit an official transcript from their current institution, and include an explanation of any non-standard marking systems. We also require an academic transcript from your high school (or equivalent) containing your final-year marks, and a high school profile. A copy of your university/college syllabus should be included to establish which of your courses are common to our degree programme. Where possible, we will transfer credits to the total needed for a degree award. Some applicants may be offered a place on a waitlist for our most popular degrees. We are rolling admissions and do not have an option to apply EA or ED. Our average decision time is around 9 weeks.

Additional information
The US Funding team at the University of St Andrews can only administer applications for US loans; this is borrowing that must be repaid. Studying at St Andrews means that you are ineligible for some of the usual US-based Financial Aid such as federal and state grants (e.g. Pell Grants) and scholarships. We accept funding from 529 plans, GI Bill funding, and we are a, "yellow ribbon", school. A range of other scholarships we offer are detailed on the Fees and Funding pages on our website.
Visit us
We encourage all prospective students to attend one of our in-person Visiting Days or a virtual Visiting Day. These opportunities allow you to meet with experienced advisers and academic staff, tour student housing, and find out about student life from current student Ambassadors. We regularly offer smaller 'Talk and Tour' visits (2 hours) which include a tour with a current student Ambassador and an information session with staff from Admissions. A range of virtual options are offered in order to assist anyone unable to travel to St Andrews. Please visit the Meet Us section of our website for all bookings. We organise Admitted Student Events (ASEs) each spring and these are held around the world. Virtual ASEs are also offered for those unable to travel.
I feel extremely privileged to have found a home away from home at St Andrews. The international community, challenging learning environment, and access to a wealth of opportunities in the UK and beyond were just a few of the attributes that drew me to St Andrews and have continued to impress me every day.
